The First “Making A Difference” Award

penguin-awardI spend a lot of time scouring the internet for anything to do with vitiligo. There is a lot of information out there, but most sites are either medical or sales related. Once in a great while, I come across a blog created by someone who is making a difference in peoples life in the “real world”. In order to give recognition to individuals who do extraordinary things for the vitiligo community, I have decided to give them special mention on this site.

The first award goes to Maria Balarin of New Jersey. Her blog is called, Dare to Live.

Maria has 2 sons with vitiligo and has dedicated her time to educating people about vitiligo. She held an educational forum at Wayne Hills High School for over 350 freshman students and also a Meet and Greet in East Windsor, NJ for patients and their families. Maria also succesfully petitioned NJ Governor Corzine for A proclamation that the month of April 2008 is Vitiligo Awareness Month.

Thank you for all of your hard work, Maria. Your actions touch the lives of many people all around the world.

Visit Maria’s site and leave her a comment to show your appreciation ;)
