Living with vitiligo is an inconvenience. And even though there are no physical issues to deal with, the ramifications of low self-esteem and low self-image can be just as debilitating to ones lifestyle as any other disease.
While presently there isn’t much that we can do for everyone with vitiligo to be cured of the white patches of skin, perhaps a simple change like referring to vitiligo as a ‘skin anomaly‘ instead of ‘disease’, might help to make it sound less dire and depressing. I like the sound of anomaly…it sounds abstract and it’s a $5 word!
