When I was about 15 I started getting spots on my left hand. It started with my thumb and index finger. Although my condition is not as noticeable as others, it still affects my daily life. I always am staring at it and always wondering if someone can tell I have the condition. I’m 17 now and it has not spread much, but it’s considerably larger than it used to be.
Living in Missouri there’s not much new medicine, so where I live not much is known about vitiligo. I’ve been wanting to try the UVB or UV treatment, but I’m not for sure where to go! I’m hoping that my condition stays the same, or goes away. And always remember if you do have vitiligo that there is hope. Do NOT give up the hope that you can be cured. Ryan

I’m 17 and i too have vitiligo, my grandmother has it as well and it now covers her entire body so it seems to me that i know what I’m dealing with. When she found out she had it she was somewhere around 27 so it scares me a little bit to know that i have it younger. I live in the sunshine state..florida. Bathing suit season is right around 11 months out of the year so everyday is a tank top and shorts day for me. I face the constant stares and questions. I have an older sister so for me its hard seeing and having a family who don’t suffer from this and having to cope with being the only one being different. Although my friends understand I easily get embarrassed when meeting an attractive guy or a pretty girl even. Kind of just shoots your confidence down. I just hope that when I go away to college guys will still find me attractive.. will i have trouble finding somebody who wants to be with me? Do i try to cover this problem up and hind it? Or embrace it? I heard the quote you are too beautiful in the eyes of god to stress over the way you appear in the eyes of the irrelevant.
I know what you’re saying is true, but its not always easy. My dad always says if someone can’t look past that, they don’t deserve you.
Well for a couple years now I’ve been trying to get in to see a dermatologist for several things, but I live in Quebec and here the health care system is so slow and bad…
Funny you should mention that, i actually do have a disease affecting my health LOL… have you ever heard of Fibromyalgia?

Yea :) really, you just need to find people who accept you for who you are, not what you look like. Sounds hard, but it’s not as unbelievable as you’d think (: Your personality is what people look for. I’ve got protopic cream from my dermataologist and after a year, it’s actually improved so much! It’s only left under my lip a little which is covered by my bottom lip mostly. Make up does wonders :p But treatments do work if done faithfully. But yea, I have had 2 boyfriends, and especially my current one doesn’t care about it. He’s with me for me, so as much as you feel alone remember you’re not, things could be alot worse and actually have a condition affecting your internal health. God doesn’t give you any situation you can’t handle.

My doctor just told me yesterday what i have, i didn’t even know Vitiligo existed, so right away i started reseaching. I’m so happy i found this site and already feel a connection with these people.

Hey I just wanted to say I’m 17 as well I’m the exact same! Just this year it’s started to spread onto my face around my lips. I’m a girl, and it’s on my face so it’s quite the self esteem downer.. I’ve been able to use make up but I always wonder if other have started to notice it yet. I’m from Manitoba (canada) so there isn’t much more treatment up here than down there that I know of :/ I’ve started to give up on a hope for a cure and reading a story about another person my age going through the same thing helps. :)
