Hey! My name is Ben and I am a 19-year-old college student. I have had vitiligo for around 10 years. Growing up with vitiligo was very difficult for me as I was sure to stand out amongst my peers because of my skin.
I was generally a shy kid, not liking attention of any kind, especially negative attention because of my skin condition. I cannot say how many days I would wish I could have a different life as every day was a challenge for me. However, as I have come into maturity, I can honestly say that I love my vitiligo. It is a part of who I am.
For me, it was really a matter of letting go of worrying about that which I had no control over. Rather than constantly stress and be upset about my vitiligo, I began to embrace it. After all, it is a part of me and has helped shape me into the person I am today. I am more accepting and less judgemental due to the personal experience of living with vitiligo, and I am more compassionate and kind as a result as well.
I am proud of how unique my vitiligo makes me and would not change my skin even if I could.
