    Greetings Nathalie
This is Michael Juarez from La Puente, Cali.
Just thought id write to you inquirying how i can purchase a botle of the Vitiligo Cover Lotion. I had made several attempts to order it by clicking on the “Add to Cart button” on the vitligo.com website, but to my avail, no luck.
Is there possibly another way that i maybe able to order your lotion?
    Thanks
    Mike J

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for making me aware of the issue. This shopping cart may be a bit confusing at first because once you press “add to cart”, a new page is expected. In this case, instead of a new page, your cart total can be found in the right column of the same page.

Thanks for your order! You’re going to love the lotion.

Hey I was wondering about your cover up lotion. Will it wash off? I swim alot and want something that will last. Thanks! Rick

  • Nathalie Pelletier (author) said:

    Hi Rick,
Vitiligo Cover lotion wears off like a regular tan; as your ski n sloughs off the dead skin cells, the tan fades. The color will last a week with regular showering, but i do not know how long it will last with daily swimming and the harsh-on-your-skin chlorine. I can say that if you put a moisturizing lotion on daily, it will extend your sunless tan.
    All the best,
    Nathalie

Anyone try the Vitiligo Cover Lotion? Effective?

  • Brisk said:

Good question Carlos and i see no responce was given hmmmmm……..

  • Nathalie Pelletier (author) said:

    hi brisk and carlos,

there was no ulterior meaning as to why i failed to respond to carlo’s’ question; i simply didn’t see it. there’s no excuse for that, but sometimes a comment may slip under my radar ;)

the vitiligo cover lotion works on all skin types. if you have a fair complexion, i recommend putting the lotion over your entire body to get an even tone. if you have a dark complexion, you should first try putting it only on the white patches and feathering out the edges to blend with your natural skin tone.

if you, or anyone, has any more questions about the lotion, please feel free to email me personally at NLP [@] vitiligocover [dot] com

    thanks!!

I wonder that as well, if you can use this if you are African American, what if my skin is the same complexion or darker than oprah winfrey for example? Will it work? I know someone said “darker skinned”, but that could mean someone with brown skin from india…

    Thanks for your help!

I purchased Dy-O-Derm a few days ago and it goes very bronze on my vitiligo patches. Since I am Indian and have brown skin, the bronzed colour does not match my skin tone at all. It gets as dark as I want it to but remains VERY noticeable even on small patches. I was wondering if this product will match South Asian brown skin tones.

Hi, I have a darker skin and I have white patches in my legs, I purchased the virtiligo lotion and I put the lotion only on the white patches but it didn’t work.. I think I didn’t follow the instructions properly, please let me know soon. Thanks..

  • Nathalie Pelletier (author) said:

    Hi Bipin,
thanks for writing in so i can guide you to get the most out of the cover lotion. the cover lotion is meant to be put all over your body. yes, your pigmented skin will get a bit of color, but this is key for the vitiligo areas to blend with the rest of your skin.

    Here’s how the lotion works:
When your skin tans by the sun, it is due to the sun reacting to the melanin in the cells just below the skin surface. As your dead skin cells slough off, your tan naturally seems to fade.

This product mimics that natural process. Similar to the sun tanning your skin, the DHA (derived from natural sugars) reacts with the cells just below the skin surface causing them to produce coloring, and as your dead skin sells slough off, the color will fade (usually about 1 week). However, if there are any dead skin cells on the surface, the chemical reaction binds to them causing the dead skin cells to color and because they are on the surface, it will look orangey.

All you need to do to ensure this not happen is to wash your skin with an exfoliating (removing dead skin cells) liquid before applying the lotion. If you do not have access to an exfoliant, here are some easy, and inexpensive, ways to make your own:

These recipes are good for about once a week and offer a lot more exfoliation and moisturizing benefits. By scrubbing off the top layer of dead skin cells your skin will feel smoother, your moisturizer will penetrate easier and you will help prevent annoying ingrown hairs and body breakouts. The act of rubbing in circular motions, towards the heart also increases circulation.

    Granular exfoliant options:
Salt: You can use sea salt, kosher salt, epsom salts or just plain old table salt. I like to use table salt because it is cheaper and smaller grains mean you don’t have to grind it yourself. Larger chunks of salt have irregular edges and are too scratchy for the skin so if you decide to use a larger salt be sure to grind it in a blender, food processor or coffee mill. All salts will have detoxifying and muscle-relaxing properties. The problem with salt is it will sting if you have any minor cuts or scratches you are not aware of. For this reason, never use a salt scrub after shaving, it will not feel nice! Also, in general the act of shaving is exfoliating (removing dead skin cells) so if you exfoliate before you shave you will get a closer shave and cut down on skin irritation. Also, the oil from the scrub can be used instead of shaving cream and will lubricate the blades of your razor. If you do not have sensitive skin you can use a sugar scrub after shaving if you want to keep the oil on your skin and skip moisturizer.

Sugar: You can use brown sugar, white (granulated) sugar or natural cane sugar. White sugar is probably the cheapest but will work the same as natural cane sugar. Brown sugar is gentler and has a warmer, yummier fragrance. Sugar scrubs in general are gentler than salt scrubs and don’t really have muscle-relaxing qualities but the act of scrubbing in a circular motion does increase circulation.

Coffee: The information I obtained about coffee as a topical scrub surprised me. Coffee is granular and feels nice on the skin but the caffeine has added benefits. Applied topically coffee helps to redistribute fat cells and decrease the formation of cellulite. It also acts as a vasorestrictor, tightening and shrinking blood vessels thereby helping eliminate varicose veins. It has been used for years in spas in Hawaii and on the coast of Bali. Others: Oatmeal is very gentle and won’t aggressively exfoliate but it is great if you have dry, itchy skin. Flax seed is also very lubricating for dry skin. Crushed almonds are very exfoliating as well but may be too much for sensitive skin. Yogurt and milk contain lactic acid which will dissolve skin cells and act as a non-granular exfoliant.

which by the way, is the only cause for skin to develop an orange hue. instead of coloring the
